Minister Annetha Downs was born on November 26, 1960, to the late Charlie and Pearline Johnson, of Hamburg, Arkansas. A native of Montrose, Arkansas, she later made Hamburg her home, where she lived faithfully and joyfully for the past 48 years. She transitioned peacefully from this life on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in Little, Rock, Arkansas.Annetha was passionate about learning and self-improvement. She graduated from Colorado Technical University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in business development, earning Magna Cum Laude honors in July of 2021.
Minister Downs dedicated her professional life to caring for others. She served at Drew Memorial Hospital, where she cared for the elderly with compassion, dignity and grace. Her work was not just a job—it was an extension of her ministry.
Annetha accepted Christ in 1982, was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at Emmanuel Temple under Bishop D.C. Mays. Her devotion to God was unwavering, and she lived as a willing servant of the Kingdom. She served faithfully as a licensed minister and First Administrant to the Bishop. Her commitment to ministry was evident through the many roles she humbly accepted of the years, including: Church Secretary, Trustee Board Member, Non-Medical Transportation Service Board Member, Dispute Committee Member, Prayer Warrior's Ministry, Assistant President of Women’s Department, Single Women’s Ministry. Her leadership continued as she served as: District Youth Department President, District Evangelist Chair-Lady of the Hamburg District, Licensed Missionary in the 2nd Jurisdiction of Arkansas COGIC under Supervisor Eva McGhee, President of the Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas Jurisdictional Music Department of Evangelist Temple House of Refuge of All National COGIC under Bishop C.D. Willis.
Minister Downs was committed to the work of the Lord, giving her time, her talents and her heart to ministry.
Minister Annetha Downs was a woman of faith, strength and unwavering love. She served God, her family, her church and her community with dignity and humility. Her life’s work touched many and her memory will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered. She will be cherished. She will be deeply missed.
