Pearl Ruth Nelson-Price was born Aug. 14, 1964 to the late Jzelden (J.C.) Nelson and Fannie Mae Nelson. She departed her earthly presence on Sun. Dec. 16, 2018 at the age of 54.
Pearl accepted Christ at an early age at Calvary #2 Baptist Church where she continued her membership as an active thither. After moving to Oklahoma, her home church became Union Baptist in Lawton, OK where she served as a choir member.
She graduated from Dermott High School in 1983 where she was a member of the Pep Club and reined as Homecoming Queen in 1982. She married her high school sweetheart, Ervin H. Price on Feb. 18, 1984, and to this union was born three children. The Class of 1983 honored their fallen classmate with a resolution declaring Dec. 22nd "Pearl Nelson Price Day."
Pearl and Ervin lived in Germany after Ervin joined the military. There Pearl gained employment at the Central Issuance Facility and Commissary in Germany. After leaving the country, she worked at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK as a medical clerk. She then worked at Reynold Army Hospital in the Personnel Records Department.
Pearl was known for being a good cook. (She thought she was the inventor of hot water cornbread).
Her favorite saying was, "Why Come?" Her favorite pastime was shopping. Decals of "born to shop" would always be on he vehicles. Pearl had a heart of gold. She reached out to people. Took them in, provided food, clothing and shelter. She was the real "Foster Mom" and loved by many.
Left to cherish her memory are: her husband Ervin Henry Price; son, Ervin Ryan (and wife Jasmine) of Lawton, OK; son Tiannna J. /Timothy J. Price of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Alisha Price of Lawton, OK; one grandson, Ervin Ryan II of Lawton, OK; six brothers: Cecil, Bobby, Dock (and wife Annette), John (and wife Earnestine) all of Dermott, AR; Henry (and wife Coleen) of Kansas City, KS; Timothy (and wife Marcia) of St. Mary, GA; four sisters, Shirley Manon (and husband Willie) of Dermott, AR; Lois Nelson of North Chicago, IL; Elaine Marion of Las Vegas, NV, and Rena Nelson of Columbus, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Pearl had a special love for her friends and family. She was very generous and kind to all. Her special request for her family and friends was to, "Think deeply; Speak gently. Love much. Laugh a lot. Work hard. Give freely. Be kind, and leave the rest to God."
