SHIRLEY MASSEY

September 5, 1944 -- April 21, 2026

Funeral Service for Shirley Mae Harvey, 81, of Portland, AR will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2026. Service will be held at New Light Missionary Baptist Church; Rev. Jessie Washington, Officiating Minister.

Shirley was born on September 5, 1944 to Cozetta Massey in Portland, Arkansas. She was one of seven children and last survivor of the seven who preceded her in death; one sister, Kate Wade; five brothers, Randy Massey, Allen Massey(Ducy), Don Hampton(Big Boy), Ron Hampton(Lil Boy), and Jody Harvey.

Shirley Harvey(Shelly) graduated from Tillis High School. She moved to become a longtime resident of Chicago, Illinois. She worked many years for St. Anne's Hospital until closure, then she worked for Chicago Art Institute until retirement. Following a long awaited retirement and tiring of the fast pace, big windy city, its snowy freezing, snowy winters, she returned to Portland to care for aging mother.

She enjoyed quiet time alone and peaceful times with family and friends. She enjoyed shopping, dong, yard work for exercise, playing the lottery, watching basketball(favorite, Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls), reading, and attending church services. Shirley had a strong personality, kind heart, and good sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley transitioned on April 21, 2026 at Lake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center with daughter, Sharon and granddaughter, Jasmine by her side. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Massey of Lake Village, AR and Lisa McLevis (Cary) of Mansfield, TX and one granddaughter, Jasmine Swopes of Lake Village, AR; three nephews, Stacy Wade, Scotty Wade, Larry Best, and brother-in-law, Louis Wade; three nieces, Takeila Grubbs of Monticello, AR, Monica Massey and Lisa Hampton of Michigan; one sister-in-law, Vernell Massey of Michigan; other loving cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 1, 2026, from 10-10:45 a.m. at New Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will take place at Holly Grove Cemetery, Portland, Arkansas. Services entrusted to Dillard Funeral Home, 111 North Freeman Street, Dermott,, AR.
