October 28, 1940 - June 27, 2023

Chapel Service for Mrs. Effie Jean Gatewood, 82, of Fayetteville, AR and formerly of Eudora, will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2023. Service will be held in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home, 137 Front Street, Eudora.
Effie was born on October 18, 1940 to Leroy and Emma Talton Black in Eudora, Arkansas. She was married to George Gatewood, who preceded her in death in 1999. Before leaving Eudora, she was a member of Bright Morning Star Baptist Church. After moving to Fayetteville, she became a member of Combs Street Church of Christ.
She was educated in the Eudora Public Schools and continued her education at the the University of Arkansas, Little Rock; there she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. She worked as a Social Worker and upon retirement, opened her own childcare facility. She enjoyed canning, especially jellies, and gardening.
Mrs. Gatewood passed away on June 27, 2023 in Springdale, Arkansas. She is survived by two children, James Gatewood (Kylie) of Owasso, OK and Jeanene O'Neal (Chandun) of Fayetteville, AR; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Karen Bryant of Pasadena, CA, Mack Ervin Black of Los Angeles, CA, and Van Black of Little Rock, AR.
Viewing will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Eudora, AR. Burial will take place at the Mason Cemetery Saturday morning at10 a.m. Service entrusted to Dillard Funeral Home, 137 Front Street, Eudora, Arkansas.
